The Alresford Pigs Association - Local people helping local people
The Alresford Pigs Association has given financial help to those in need in Alresford and the surrounding villages for over thirty years We have given money for:
- Those needing care respite
- School children unable to pay for school trips
- Single families needing white goods
- Organisations such as the Scouts, Guides, Youth groups
- The local schools for specific projects
- Mobility scooters, park benches
- Senior residents events and activities
The Alresford Pigs Association raises money by organising or contributing to community events.
- The Bi-Annual Duck Race (next one 14th June 2009)
- Taking entry fees and manning the gates at the Alresford Show
- Erecting, maintaining and removing the Christmas trees and lights on the buildings in Alresford on behalf of the Chamber of Trade and Commerce
- Organising and performing the arrival of Father Christmas on behalf of the Christmas Tree Committee.
- Ad hoc fund raising events such as: Burns Night, Pig Racing, Quiz Night
We are not affiliated to any other organisation, we are not a registered charity, but we do get our charity accounts audited annually by a local accountancy firm.
Our members are all based in Alresford or nearby and represent a wide cross section of the community. The last founding member left in 2007 and is now our Honorary Vice President. We welcome new members and the membership process is normally started by recommendation from one of the existing members.
